This seems to be a common problem in new HD2600 hardware. Upon installation, Windows detects an unknown PCI device and there doesn’t seem to be any driver for it. Fret no more! It’s really simple.
The unknown PCI device is actually the HD2600’s audio capabilities. Apparently, the drivers straight from ATI do not have the correct HDMI drivers and utilities and to solve this problem, you have to download drivers by your videocard manufacturer.
In my case, I use GeCube HD2600s, so I look for GeCube’s latest drivers. Thankfully, they have updated 7.10 drivers with HDMI utilities. You can download them here (105MB download). If you have another manufacturer, check their website out. If they don’t have updated drivers, then try consulting other manufacturers. Hopefully they’ll work. Or at least just install the HDMI utilities.
You should end up with this. Click to enlarge.
After installing the HDMI drivers, Windows will detect additional audio devices, so you might want to go to the Sounds section in the Control Panel and set your default audio device.
That’s all there is to it. Goodluck and enjoy your HD hardware!
